Materuni Waterfall

Overview

About Materuni Waterfall

Materuni is a village destination on the green, cultivated foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, within easy reach of Moshi. Guests come primarily to walk through the farming landscape to Materuni Waterfall and to spend time with local hosts learning about coffee production. Rather than entering Kilimanjaro National Park, you explore the mountain's inhabited lower slopes, where coffee, bananas and other crops form part of the agricultural landscape shaped by generations of Chagga farming systems.

The pool at the base of Materuni Waterfalls is a perfect spot for a refreshing swim. The cool, clear water provides a soothing relief after the hike and is an excellent way to connect with nature. Surrounding the pool are ideal picnic spots where visitors can relax and take in the tranquil atmosphere.

Wildlife

Materuni lies within the productive highland landscape of Kilimanjaro it's hills are a mosaic of homes, coffee, bananas, fruit trees and other crops. Local hosts introduce visitors to coffee production and life within this working agricultural landscape, while the waterfall walk leads through the green foothills that make this one of the most enjoyable day trips from Moshi.

The Materuni tour can be joined with the Kilimanjaro climbing tour, Chemka Hot Spring tour, or Maasai cultural tour as all these areas are located in the same region so it makes early to visit them even when you have limited time.

Best Time to Visit

Materuni can be visited year-round.

Drier months generally provide firmer trails and better chances of clear Kilimanjaro views, while wetter periods bring especially green scenery and stronger waterfall flow.

Rain can make the path muddy and slippery, and mountain views always depend on cloud conditions.
